the new look is live

I’m excited to present the new look of Steph Skardal Photography. I’ve been wanting to update my look for a while to something that was a bit cleaner, modern, and inspired by nature. I also wanted to include a dog illustration or graphic in my logo since I planned to keep a business and website name that does not indicate that I focus on pet photography. Another minor objective I had was to choose muted colors that do not distract from photos featured throughout the site.

In with the new:

With my goals in mind, I dug through some old photos taken during my time as a volunteer in Salt Lake City over a year ago at the South Salt Lake City dog shelter. I found the photo of Pepper (bottom left) and thought it would be a great shot for a silhouette. Since I don’t spend much time in Photoshop, I had to learn a few things while experimenting to create custom paths and shapes to outline Pepper.

I worked on a few iterations of a website template, until I finally decided to purchase this HTML template through ThemeForest since it had the clean, modern look I was going for. And by purchasing the HTML templates, I got the full set of PSD templates in addition to all the HTML markup, CSS, and images. I worked with the HTML template to develop my own custom WordPress theme.

In addition to updating the new look, I also took the opportunity to upgrade to HTML5. I plan to write a few more blog articles about the technical process of developing and udpating my WordPress design – stay tuned!
