I met Lauren a long while back when I lived in Salt Lake City, pre-baby times! I was excited to be one of her Soleil Dress Testers. The Soleil dress is a pattern she developed while working on Pattern Workshop, a pattern education program that comes full of videos, templates, and detailed diagrams.
I grabbed this awesome polka-dot stretch bamboo rayon from Fabric.com recently and felt this would be great fabric for the dress. It’s stretchy and fairly lightweight, and I love the purple polka-dots! I used very soft rib knit laying around in my stash, which I believe came from Hancock Fabrics several months ago. It was a little tricky to work with and next time I make this dress I’ll either use something a bit heavier or use knit interfacing.
I sewed the 18-month size, which ended up being a bit big for baby A’s 13 month size, but I also have a ton of 12-month clothes and I don’t need any more of those for now. Baby A (or should I say toddler?) will grow into this nicely though and I’m sure it’ll be a popular item throughout the hot North Carolina summer!
Throughout the sewing process, I took lots of in progress pictures, shown below. Enjoy the photos & buy the Soleil pattern here today!
